Opotiki and the Eastern Bay of Plenty Day Trip

The Eastern Bay of Plenty is rich in every aspect of Maori and European culture, history, geology and has a diverse fauna and flora. There are several bush pockets with such stunning features like the 'Burial Tree', Taketakerau, at the Hukutaia Domain. This tree is a Puriri, which is about 67 feet in girth, over 70 feet high and estimated to be over 2000 years old.

We take you on a tour from Mt. Maunganui (Port of Tauranga) along the coast to Whakatane, vsiting the heads at the harbour entrance, and continue along the Ohiwa Harbour and the Waiotahi Beach to Opotiki. We take a walk through the Hukutaia Domain, have lunch and head back via Waimana and the outskirts of Te Urewera National Park. We will be back at Mt. Manganui (Port of Tauranga) not later than 4.00 pm.
